    Marvin “Duke” “Mark” Douglas Conley

    OTTO – Marvin “Duke” “Mark” Douglas Conley passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2019 after a long, courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Born Aug. 29, 1935 to John N. Conley and Theda Holden Conley of Otto, he was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Dudley Conley; and stepchildren, Vicky Roach Norton and Lindsey Roach. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1954, and was a proud Marine and engineer. After 34 years in government services he retired in 1995, moved back to Otto and built another house for Doris and him. He loved Colorado and spent time there hiking, biking and camping.     John Washington McDowell

    John Washington McDowell OTTO – John Washington McDowell, 94, passed away on July 15, 2019.   Born in Macon County on Jan. 14, 1925, he was the son of Tom and Bessie Cabe McDowell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Kate Burrell McDowell; his three sisters; one brother, his son-in-law, Norman Peterman; and one great-grandchild, Daemian Thomas Mancini. Mr. McDowell served his country through service in the army in World WarII and was awarded four Bronze Stars. He retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections.  He was a member of Mulberry United Methodist Church.  He was also a member of the American Legion…

    FRANKLIN – Jonathon Thomas Boucher, 32, passed away Monday, July 9, 2019. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, he was the son of Jodee Kerber Boucher and the late Ronald Thomas Boucher.  Jon enjoyed spending his time on the lake. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his companion, Elizabeth Hutchison; daughter, Caerym Boucher; stepchildren, Pherris Swafford, Tiersley Swafford, Brelle Swafford and Lakelan Swafford; brothers, Josh Boucher and Justin Boucher; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.     Brenda “Joyce” Cheek FRANKLIN – Brenda “Joyce” Cheek, 72, passed away Friday, July 12, 2019. Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late John V. Cheek and Mary Louise Anderson Cheek. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Joann Crane.  Joyce worked on an assembly line at General Motors until she retired and moved back to Franklin in 2005.     Grayce Wills MacDonald Grayce Wills MacDonald, 95, of Franklin, passed away peacefully at home on July 6, 2019.  The daughter of William Wills and Lily Pope Wills, she was born on May 11, 1924 in Butte, Montana. Grayce was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Ivan Alexander MacDonald; her brother, William Wills and her sister, Pearl Wills Stuart. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as a host of good friends. Grayce was educated in Canada after her family moved to British Columbia and later to Ontario.
